Admissions Policy

Students aged 11+ in September who live within the catchment area will normally be expected to attend Shaftesbury School. The school will admit to its intake year eligible students on demand up to at least the school’s Standard Number. The school will also admit other students whose parents have indicated a preference for attendance, provided that

  1. the standard number is not exceeded
  2. the school is appropriate and suitable
  3. parents accept responsibility for daily travel arrangements and costs
  4. the wishes of the parents do not run counter to the Dorset Education Authority’s objective of providing an efficient education service and using its resources efficiently.

If the school is unable to offer a place, parents have the right of appeal under Section 7 of the Education Act 1980.

Admission to the Sixth Form is at the discretion of the Headteacher; details of the minimum qualifications for entry are explained in the Sixth Form Prospectus.

Full details of the School’s admissions policy are available from the school on request.

Parents wishing to arrange admission for their children at other times of the year than September should make an appointment through the School Office to see the Headteacher who will introduce them to the relevant Senior Tutor and, where appropriate, to the Director of Boarding.
