Sports College - Key Stage 4

London OlympicsAt Key Stage 4 all students will undertake either GCSE PE (Edexcel) or the BTEC Sport course, with GCSE Dance (AQA) being an additional option. Full details of each of the course specifications are available at the following web addresses:

GCSE PE: & BTEC: www.edexcel.org.uk

GCSE Dance: www.aqa.org.uk

At the end of Year 11 students will sit either the GCSE PE Full Course, Short course exam, or complete the BTEC First Certificate in Sport, which is a vocational course accredited to Level 2 on the NQF and equivalent to two GCSE’s. There is also the opportunity for students to undertake various Sports Leadership and National Governing Body awards within the school.

Within these courses we ensure that the requirements of the National Curriculum are met and that students are following a course that gives them the breadth of activities that they need as well as the in depth knowledge and understanding of these activities.

Students learning will progress from Key Stage 3 and focus now on leadership within sport before the transition to possible post-16 courses and Key Stage 5 PE.
