Student Aspirations Team

The student aspirations team is the pupil voice for Shaftesbury school. We are made up of many different students of all ages and backgrounds. We represent the views and ideas that students have and work with staff and the community to improve our school from Teaching and Learning to the general environment.

Parents’ Aspirations Team

We have a rolling Chair and Secretary. This allows everyone a chance to gain skills in those posts. The team itself splits into sub committees such as representatives on the Governors Campus and Curriculum committees; The Eco Team, Anti-Bullying Team, Assembly working party, Rewards and Sanctions. Each team works on different action points but brings back to the main group their concerns and solutions.

We regularly host the Shaftesbury Pyramid Student Council when all local Primary schools come to share their ideas with us. We then attend the County Student Council with schools from across Dorset. We are a member of Schools Council UK.

The Anti-bullying team went into assemblies so that they could make all students aware of the “Anti-Bullying Box” in the library. This project is very important for achieving equality and a sense of security in the school. Their main aim is to produce a “Telling culture” so that all students aren’t afraid of reporting bullying and have a confidential way of bringing the issues to the attention of the Pastoral Team so that solutions can be found.

The Eco team is working on raising the schools Eco status from bronze to silver and are getting the school involved in the “Shaftesbury in Bloom” competition. This team is working with the community and local council. One of our tasks is to create a sustainable herb area for use by Catering staff and students.

We aspire to improve school life and the environment for all students.

If you have any issues you would like the team to discuss or if you would like to get involved just contact Mrs Linsley in A19. We meet on a fortnightly basis and after school. We are looking for any ideas that you may have and would welcome you to our meetings.
