Working Together
Partnership with Parents
We all have a part to play in ensuring good communication between home and school. Staff are always glad to meet parents to discuss concerns. Please contact the school to make an appointment if there is anything that you would like to talk about.
Home-School Agreement
When each student is admitted to the school, parents are asked to sign a broad agreement which outlines what the school can reasonably expect from the home background, and which gives details of what students and parents can reasonably expect from the school.
Information Evenings
As well as consultation evenings (which generally follow the publication of reports), we hold an Information Evening in July for students and their families before they enter Year 7, and an Open Evening in the autumn. There are other evenings to explain the Key Stage 4 subject choice process, to give advice about exam preparation for Year 11, to provide information about entry to the Sixth Form and to help sixth formers prepare for Higher Education.
School Magazine
Aspire, which is issued free of charge to all parents four times a year, is the main source of information about general school matters. It also contains many items of news keeping you up to date with what has been going on throughout the school.
Rewards and Sanctions
Outstanding effort or exceptional performance, examples of good citizenship and participation are recognised by the reward of House Points. Students are given a weekly update on their total of House Points, which when accumulated, are rewarded on an individual, Group and House basis.
House points may be deducted in the event of poor behaviour or unsatisfactory effort.
Occasionally it is necessary to detain a student after school for disciplinary reasons, or because of poor effort. You will always be notified in advance if this happens, in order that you can organise transport home for your child.
A list of expectations concerning behaviour is included in the student’s Planner.
